The
three dimensional models are an important extension of MoSS as they allow
the designer to evaluate the form and study the potential subdivision
and joining of surface plates with a view towards manufacturing. The construction
of surfaces may not necessarily follow the same scale or geometry of the
generated MoSS geometry, as plates may be grouped in larger segments and
then joined to form a continuous surface. The production of physical models
is the first step towards an integrated system using structural analysis,
material properties, finite element analysis (FEA) and CAD/CAM. This orientation
is particularly interesting in light of advances in rapid prototyping
which allow for diversity in the production process at little extra cost
leading to locally optimized solutions. |
